Basketball Recap: Make It Three in a Row for Timber Creek

Timber Creek had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 15 points) and they went ahead and made it three on Saturday. They came out on top against the Keller Central Chargers by a score of 52-42. Given the Falcons' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 148th, while the Chargers are ranked 703rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Timber Creek's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Elena Gonzalez led the charge by putting up eight points and five steals. The dominant performance gave Gonzalez a new career-high in points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jillian Topping, who posted 12 points and four steals.

Timber Creek was working as a unit and finished the game with 11 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Keller Central only posted five assists.

Keller Central lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Skylaah Benbow, who went 9 of 15 on her way to 20 points along with five boards and three steals. That was a full 47.6% of Keller Central's points, marking the fourth time in a row she's had more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Aubrey Ayala, who put up ten points.

Timber Creek is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 18-8 record this season. As for Keller Central, they have been struggling recently as they've lost eight of their last nine contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-17 record this season.

Timber Creek will welcome Southlake Carroll at 5:45 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Keller Central, they will head out on the road to take on Keller at 5:45 p.m. on Tuesday.
