The Cherokee Trail Cougars's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their fourth straight loss. They fell just short of George Washington by a score of 57-55. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
When it comes to explaining why Cherokee Trail lost, one person who can't be blamed is Cade Brook. Despite the final result, he scored nine points along with 15 rebounds. That's the first time this season that Brook pulled down eight or more rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Jordan Mitchell , who scored ten points along with seven rebounds.
Even though they lost, Cherokee Trail were smashing the offensive glass and finished the game with 20 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
George Washington's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Jeremiah Trimm led the charge by scoring 15 points along with six rebounds and three steals. The contest was Trimm's sixth in a row with at least ten points. Oscar Stecklein was another key contributor, scoring 13 points along with nine blocks and five rebounds.
Cherokee Trail now has a losing record at 4-5. As for George Washington, their victory bumped their record up to 5-6.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Cherokee Trail and Legend will face off at 7:00 p.m. on January 6th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. George Washington will be staying on the road on January 12th to face off against Aurora Central at 7:00 p.m. on January 12th.
