The Poly Bears will challenge the Capistrano Valley Cougars at 3:15 p.m. on Wednesday. Poly is coming into the contest hot, having won their last six games.
Poly's pitching crew heads into the matchup hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed last Saturday. They were the clear victors by a 6-0 margin over Arbor View. The Bears might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six games by six runs or more this season.
Not much got past Marley Audoma, who gave up just four hits and racked up nine Ks to keep Arbor View off the board. Audoma has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 12 consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Katelyn Cortez was excellent, going 1-for-3 with one home run. Brookelyn Duerfeldt was another key player, going 2-for-3 with three RBI.
Poly hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least four batters in six consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Capistrano Valley came up short against San Clemente on Tuesday and fell 4-1. The Cougars have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Cassidy Stinnett spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned runs on seven hits and racked up eight Ks.
On the hitting side, Capistrano Valley saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Leah Tanioka, who went 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.
Capistrano Valley's defeat dropped their record down to 8-8. As for Poly, their victory bumped their record up to 8-5.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Wednesday. Poly hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 1.2 home runs per game. However, it's not like Capistrano Valley struggles in that department as they've been averaging 0.5 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down. Check MaxPreps after the match for a full breakdown of the game, commentary, and other softball content.
