The Cary Imps struggled with assists on Saturday (the Hoggard Vikings had seven more) and sadly the final score reflected it. Cary fell 59-51 to Hoggard. While losing is never fun, Cary can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 415th, while Hoggard is ranked 126th).
Despite the loss, Cary still got an impressive performance from Jonathan Peery, who scored 14 points. Those 14 points set a new season-high mark for him. Another player making a difference was Rayshone Gullatt, who scored 12 points along with five rebounds and four steals.
Hoggard's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Hunter McGrath, who went 6 for 8 from beyond the arc en route to 18 points and 0 assists. The team also got some help courtesy of Josiah Gillespie, who scored eight points along with seven assists and four steals.
Cary's defeat was their third straight on the road, which bumped their record down to 3-9. As for Hoggard, their victory bumped their record up to 8-4.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Cary and Green Level will face off at 6:00 p.m. on January 5th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Green Level will be coming into the game with an undefeated record on the line. Hoggard and Laney will face off at 7:30 p.m. on January 5th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Hopefully Laney focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 13 on Saturday.
