Baseball Recap: Atascadero Takes a Loss

Lompoc hit Atascadero with a four-run second inning on Monday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Greyhounds took a 6-3 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Braves. The Greyhounds were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Braves apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in May of 2024.

Uly Kaul was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. He tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. That's the fewest hits he has allowed since back in March. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with one run and one double. Atascadero is 2-1 when Kaul posts three or more hits, but 6-8 otherwise.

Kaul wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Evan Churchill, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with one run and one double.

Atascadero now has a losing record of 8-9. As for Lompoc, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 8-5.

Atascadero didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next match, a 14-6 victory against Garfield on the 15th. As for Lompoc, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next contest, a 3-2 win against Cabrillo on the 16th.
