Houston is 8-2 against Mabel-Canton since April of 2022 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Hurricanes will host the Cougars at 4:30 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.

Archer Semling was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out seven over four innings pitched. What's more, he gave up only one walk, the fewest he's had since back in April. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with one home run and two RBI. That home run marked the first that he has launched this season.
In other batting news, Axel Vix was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. That home run was his first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Coltin Groth, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Mabel-Canton challenged Schaeffer Academy on Tuesday. The Cougars were the clear victors by a 13-3 margin over the Lions. The win continues a trend for the Cougars in their matchups with the Lions: they've now won six in a row.
Like Houston, Mabel-Canton also got a great game from a two-way player: Darian Hershberger. He pitched 4.2 innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits. What's more, Hershberger posted five strikeouts, the most he's had since back in May of 2025. He was also big at the plate, earning two runs and one stolen base.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Nolan Garness, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with five RBI, three runs, and one triple. Mabel-Canton is 3-1 when Garness posts two or more runs, but 7-9 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Milton Hutchinson, who went 3-for-4 with one home run and four RBI.
Houston's loss dropped their record down to 2-12. As for Mabel-Canton, the victory got them back to even at 10-10.
