The Archbishop McCarthy Mavericks are taking a road trip to square off against the Cypress Bay Lightning at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Archbishop McCarthy is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.3 runs per game this season.
Archbishop McCarthy gave up the first runs on Tuesday, but they didn't let that get them down. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 6-5 win over Westminster Academy. The home team had taken home the W every time these teams have met since April 4, 2023, but that streak is no more.
Sienna Garcia spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and one unearned) runs on eight hits and racked up nine Ks.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Krista Confesssore, who scored a run while going 2-for-3. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in doubles (two). Alexis Nightingale was another key player, scoring a run while going 1-for-2.
Meanwhile, Cypress Bay fell victim to Coral Springs Charter and their airtight pitching crew on Tuesday. They came up short against the Panthers, falling 10-0. The defeat continues a trend for the Lightning in their meetings with the Panthers: they've now lost eight in a row.
Cypress Bay saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jenna Doobrow, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base. That stolen base was Doobrow's first of the season.
Cypress Bay's loss dropped their record down to 4-7. As for Archbishop McCarthy, their victory bumped their record up to 9-5.
Cypress Bay's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Thursday. Archbishop McCarthy has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.3 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Cypress Bay, though, as they've been averaging only 3.7 strikeouts. Will Archbishop McCarthy keep running through batters, or will the Lightning buck the trend?
Archbishop McCarthy couldn't quite get it done against Cypress Bay in their previous meeting back in March of 2024 as they fell 10-7. Can the Mavericks avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
