The Adena Warriors are taking a road trip to square off against the Chillicothe Cavaliers at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Adena 3.6, Chillicothe 2.5) so any runs scored will be well earned.
Adena took a loss when they played away from home on Tuesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Wednesday. Their pitchers stepped up to hand Southeastern a 4-0 shutout. The Warriors haven't had any issues with the Panthers recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive win against them.
Adriana Guarnieri was excellent, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.
Meanwhile, Chillicothe entered their tilt with McClain on Wednesday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. They came out on top against the Tigers by a score of 14-11. The pitching woes were uncharacteristic for the Cavaliers, who until this matchup were averaging 2.55 runs allowed.
Cambriana Rittinger was a major factor no matter where she played. She struck out 12 batters over 6.1 innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits (and not a single walk). She has been consistent : she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in five consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-5.
In other batting news, Chillicothe let Isabella Witte and Vivian Morgan run wild. Witte went 3-for-4 with four RBI and one run, while Morgan scored three runs while going 3-for-4. Brianna Cousins also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
Chillicothe always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .532. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as McClain only posted an OBP of .351.
Adena's record is now 9-3. As for Chillicothe, they pushed their record up to 10-1 with the victory, which was their sixth straight on the road.
Thursday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Adena has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .489. However, it's not like Chillicothe struggles in that department as they've averaged .447. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Adena came up short against Chillicothe in their previous matchup back in May of 2024, falling 8-5. Can the Warriors avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
