Classical Academy waltzed into their matchup on Wednesday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They put the hurt on the St. Joseph Academy Crusaders with a sharp 26-6 win. The Caimans might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven games by six runs or more this season.
Milena McConnell was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she tossed two innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off one hit. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one hit in four consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 4-for-6 with three runs, four RBI, and one triple. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April of 2024.
In other batting news, Gezylah Key was incredible, getting on base in all six of her plate appearances with five runs, three RBI, and one triple. What's more, she posted four hits, the most she's had since back in March. Kalia Gonzalez was another key player, going 4-for-5 with three runs, four RBI, and one double.
Classical Academy hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least five batters in five consecutive contests.
The victory got Classical Academy back to even at 8-8. As for St. Joseph Academy, they are on a nine-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-10.
Coincidentally, Classical Academy and St. Joseph Academy will both be playing La Jolla Country Day the next time they take the field. The Caimans will host the Torreys at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, while the Crusaders will host them at 3:00 p.m. on May 9.
