Archbishop Wood is a perfect 4-0 against Harriton since March of 2021 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Vikings will venture away from home to take on the Rams at 4:00 p.m. Archbishop Wood's pitching crew has only allowed 3.2 runs per game this season, so Harriton's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
Archbishop Wood came into their game on Saturday off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They lost 12-2 to Central. The pitching woes were uncharacteristic for the Vikings, who until this contest were averaging 3.17 runs allowed.
Jimmy Casey made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. Logan Madison also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Harriton). They were the clear victors by a 14-0 margin over Springfield on Monday. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest win of the season.
Gaven Bowman and Cole Chodkowski did most of the damage at the plate: Bowman went a perfect 2-for-2 with four RBI, one run, and one double, while Chodkowski went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Those two hits gave Bowman a new career-high. Colin Sullivan was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.
Harriton always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .586. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Archbishop Wood's loss dropped their record down to 13-5. As for Harriton, their victory bumped their record up to 4-7.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Archbishop Wood has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.7 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Harriton struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 7.2 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Archbishop Wood took their win against Harriton in their previous meeting back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 14-4 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Vikings since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
