Toll Gate hasn't had much luck against Westerly recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Titans will head out on the road to take on the Bulldogs at 4:00 p.m.
Toll Gate is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Rhode Island's top teams: Pilgrim, who was ranked second at the time (Toll Gate was ranked sixth). The Titans fell just short of the Patriots by a score of 7-6 on Friday.
Liv Cota made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored two runs while going 2-for-3. Aria Eddy also deserves some recognition as she scored her first run of the season.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Westerly). Their pitcher stepped up to hand Barrington a 15-0 shutout on Monday. The Bulldogs haven't had any issues with the Eagles recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive victory against them.
The team relied heavily on Bella Mazzarese, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Addison Poole, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI.
Westerly was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .429. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Barrington only posted a batting average of .143.
Toll Gate's defeat dropped their record down to 3-3. As for Westerly, they now have a winning record of 3-2.
Tuesday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Toll Gate hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .336. However, it's not like Westerly struggles in that department as they've averaged .350. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Toll Gate might still be hurting after the 10-0 loss they got from Westerly in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Can the Titans avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
