Sheldon and Bronaugh are an even 5-5 against one another since December of 2018, but not for long. Both teams will face off at 5:30 p.m. on January 23rd without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Missouri (Sheldon is ranked 449th, while Bronaugh is ranked 468th).
Last Wednesday, Sheldon was able to grind out a solid victory over Northeast, taking the game 28-15. The victory was just what Sheldon needed coming off of a 67-42 defeat in their prior matchup.
Mariam Lamb continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines, scoring 14 points along with seven rebounds and three blocks. That makes it four consecutive games in which she has scored at least a third of Sheldon's points. Another player making a difference was Wynsdae Connelly, who scored eight points along with four steals.
Meanwhile, Bronaugh's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Wednesday after their sixth straight loss. They fell to Jefferson Independent Day 52-47. Bronaugh has struggled against Jefferson Independent Day recently, as their match on Wednesday was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.
Despite their loss, Bronaugh saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Jada Brundridge, who scored 12 points along with four steals, was perhaps the best of all. The team also got some help courtesy of Gretchen Banes, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and ten rebounds.
Even though they lost, Bronaugh smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive rebounds. This was only their ninth loss (out of 11 games) when they hit their own glass that hard.
Sheldon's victory bumped their record up to 5-9. As for Bronaugh, they have been struggling recently, as they've lost eight of their last nine matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-12 record this season.
Tuesday's match is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Sheldon have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 24.5 rebounds per game. It's a different story for Bronaugh, though, as they've been averaging only 29.6 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
