Indian Rocks Christian has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will square off against the Canterbury Crusaders at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Indian Rocks Christian will be strutting in after a win while the Crusaders will be coming in after a defeat.
Last Thursday, Indian Rocks Christian's game was all tied up 22-22 at the half, but luckily for them it didn't stay that way. They came out on top against Pinellas Park by a score of 42-34.
Indian Rocks Christian's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Malia Stevens led the charge by scoring 14 points along with two steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Ruth Moyer, who scored four points along with 12 rebounds and three steals.
Meanwhile, Canterbury wound up with the same score they had in their last game (45-40), but sadly the team found themselves on the wrong side of the score this time.
Despite their defeat, Canterbury saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. MacKenzie Tucker, who scored nine points along with four steals, was perhaps the best of all. Tucker has been hot recently, having posted four or more steals the last four times she's played. Another player making a difference was Myriah Harrison, who scored 15 points along with two steals.
Indian Rocks Christian now has a winning record of 11-10. As for Canterbury, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 9-9 record this season.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Indian Rocks Christian haven't given up the ball easily this season, having only averaged 1.1 turnovers per game. However, it's not like Canterbury struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 9.3 turnovers per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Indian Rocks Christian might still be hurting after the 50-26 loss they got from the Crusaders in their previous meeting back in February of 2022. Can Indian Rocks Christian avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
