The East Wilkes Cardinals pushed their score all the way to 64 on Friday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell to Alleghany 69-64. East Wilkes has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Alleghany got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Zander Russell out in front who dropped a double-double on 20 points and 12 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Russell has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Joshua Cerezo-Rosario, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 12 rebounds.
East Wilkes has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost three of their last four games, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-7 record this season. As for Alleghany, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six games, which provided a nice bump to their 5-9 record this season.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. East Wilkes will take on Wilkes Central at 8:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Alleghany, they will head out on the road to face off against Elkin at 8:00 p.m. on Thursday. Elkin is out to stop a three-game streak of losses at home.
