After a string of four wins, the Shawnee Indians's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They fell just short of Coldwater by a score of 48-46. Shawnee was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Coldwater apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in January.
Despite the defeat, Shawnee saw an underclassman step up: Beckett Bertke dropped a double-double on 21 points and ten rebounds. The match was Bertke's eighth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Dominic Lynch, who scored 12 points.
Shawnee's defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 5-3. As for Coldwater, they pushed their record up to 4-0 with that win, which was their fourth straight at home dating back to last season.
Shawnee will wrap up 2023 with a road trip to face off against Lima Central Catholic at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Lima Central Catholic is currently enjoying a perfect season and no doubt want to keep things rolling. Coldwater won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Ayersville at 7:30 p.m. on December 23rd. Ayersville will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Ohio Rankings (they are ranked 420th, while Coldwater is ranked 39th).
