Westview and Ramona are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2015, but likely not for long. The Wolverines will be playing at home against the Bulldogs at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Westview is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.6 runs per game this season.
On Wednesday, Westview didn't have quite enough to beat Mt. Carmel and fell 2-1. The Wolverines haven't had much luck with the Sundevils recently, as the team has come up short the last seven times they've met.
Westview got a good showing from Kaya Rodriguez, who pitched four innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. Rodriguez has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in nine consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Kamryn Gonzalez made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 2-for-2 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run.
Meanwhile, it was close, but on Wednesday Ramona sidestepped Fallbrook for a 9-7 victory. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Bulldogs.
Taeya Kitchen made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching 6.1 innings while giving up four earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits. Kitchen was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two RBI and one double.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Evie Brown, who went 3-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. Another player making a difference was Kayla Gibson, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one double.
Westview's loss was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 4-1 and their overall record down to 12-8-1. As for Ramona, their win bumped their record up to 9-12-1.
Westview took their victory against Ramona in their previous matchup back in April by a conclusive 10-0 score. Will the Wolverines repeat their success, or do the Bulldogs have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
