Brooks has gone 9-1 against Central recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. The Lions will take on the Wildcats at 4:30 p.m.
Brooks might be feeling deja-vu: they lost 6-5 to Wilson, which was the same score (and result) they got the week prior. The Lions have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Karley Moreland was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing 5.2 innings while giving up three earned runs off four hits. What's more, she gave up only one walk, the fewest she's had since back in March. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two RBI.
In other batting news, Mackenzie Fuqua made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-4. She also hit a double, marking her first of the season. Preslie Bunch was another key player, scoring a run while going 3-for-4.
Meanwhile, Central hadn't done well against Hatton recently (they were 0-6 in their previous six matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Monday. The Wildcats were the clear victors by a 13-2 margin over the Hornets. Considering the Wildcats have won nine games by more than six runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.
Like Brooks, Central also got a great game from a two-way player: Chloe May. She tossed seven innings while giving up just two earned runs off ten hits. May has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 3-for-5. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March.
In other batting news, Mycah Beth Ray was a standout: she went 2-for-5 with one home run and two RBI. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one home run the last three times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Kilee Dowdy, who scored two runs while going 1-for-4.
Central kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in four consecutive matches.
Central is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 18-6 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.1 runs on average over those games. As for Brooks, their loss dropped their record down to 12-10.
Tuesday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Brooks hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .361. However, it's not like Central struggles in that department as they've averaged .357. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Brooks came up short against Central in their previous matchup back in March, falling 6-3. Can the Lions avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
