Even though the Rock Academy Warriors scored an imposing 55 points on Saturday, the Casa Roble Rams still came out on top. Casa Roble walked away with a 65-55 victory over Rock Academy. Given Casa Roble's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 388th, while Rock Academy is ranked 828th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Leading Casa Roble to victory were Moses Oginni and Benny Ambriz. Oginni dropped a double-double on 23 points and 11 rebounds, while Ambriz scored 21 points along with six rebounds. That makes it eight consecutive games in which Ambriz has scored at least 25% of Casa Roble's points. Anthony Maher was another key contributor, scoring six points along with six assists.
Several Warriors players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Jaden Hicks, who scored 16 points. That's the first time this season that Hicks scored 15 or more points. Another player making a difference was Donald Moore, who scored eight points along with seven rebounds.
Even though they lost, Rock Academy were working as a unit and finished the game with 16 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Casa Roble only racked up 23 assists.
Casa Roble has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 10-5 record this season. As for Rock Academy, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-7.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Casa Roble and Rio Linda will face off at 7:30 p.m. on January 2, 2024 without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Rio Linda is hoping to put an end to a three-game streak of away losses. Rock Academy will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Calvin Christian at 7:00 p.m. on January 9, 2024.
