Diamond is a perfect 5-0 against Marionville since March of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Wednesday. The Wildcats will host the Comets at 5:00 p.m. Diamond is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.7 runs per game this season.
Diamond is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Missouri's top teams: Lockwood, who was ranked 21st at the time (Diamond was ranked fifth). The Wildcats blew past the Tigers 7-1 on Tuesday. Winning may never get old, but the Wildcats sure are getting used to it with their third in a row.
Lauren Turner was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out seven over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in ten consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one home run and three RBI.
Turner wasn't the only one making solid contact as six players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Kenzie Crook, who went 2-for-3 with one run.
Meanwhile, Marionville can bid farewell to their three-game losing streak thanks to their game on Tuesday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Stockton, sneaking past 8-7. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Comets have posted since March 26, 2024.
Ashlin Carr spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and four unearned) runs on eight hits and racked up eight Ks.
On the hitting side, Marionville got a massive performance out of Annaliyah Ghan, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Maggie Murphy was another key player, going 3-for-4 with two runs, two doubles, and one RBI.
Marionville kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 17 hits. That's the most hits they've posted since back in March of 2024.
Marionville now has a winning record of 10-9. As for Diamond, their win bumped their record up to 19-4.
Wednesday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Diamond hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .328. However, it's not like Marionville struggles in that department as they've averaged .372. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went Diamond's way against Marionville when the teams last played back in April of 2024, as Diamond made off with an 8-1 victory. Will the Wildcats repeat their success, or do the Comets have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
