The Dunbar Poets put another one in the bag on Saturday to keep their perfect season alive. They breezed by Carver Vo-Tech at home to the tune of 62-6. Considering Dunbar has won six matches by more than 43 points this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.
Leading Dunbar to victory were Savion Witherspoon and Antonio Lyde. Witherspoon threw for 235 yards and three touchdowns on only ten passes, while Lyde gained 205 total yards and four touchdowns. The team also got some help courtesy of Cole Floyd, who rushed for 142 yards on only five carries.
Dunbar's defense stepped up as well, laying out the QB five times. The heavy lifting was done by Jabari Torbit and Brian Collins who racked up four sacks between them.
Carver Vo-Tech's loss came despite strong showings from Mehkai Tindal and Kwame Carpenter. Tindal picked up 118 receiving yards and a touchdown, while Carpenter only threw for 192 passing yards and failed to score a touchdown. Tindal was no stranger to the big play, connecting with a big catch that went for 68 yards.
Dunbar's victory was their 12th straight at home (dating back to last season), which pushed their record up to 7-0. As for Carver Vo-Tech, their defeat ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 6-4.
Coincidentally, both teams will both be playing Western Tech & Environmental Science the next time they take the field. Carver Vo-Tech will host Western Tech & Environmental Science at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, while Dunbar will host them at 9:00 a.m. on November 10th.
