Winning is just a little bit easier when you nail six more threes than your opponent, a fact the Green Hope Falcons proved on Friday. They enjoyed a cozy 60-46 victory over Apex. For Green Hope, this counts as revenge for the 60-41 loss Apex walked away with the last time they faced one another back in February of 2023.
Green Hope was led to victory by Abigail Brown and Chloe Lee. Brown scored 15 points along with seven rebounds and two steals, while Lee went 6 for 11 from beyond the arc en route to 19 points and 2 assists. That's the first time this season that Lee scored 15 or more points. The team also got some help courtesy of Uma Surkund, who scored nine points.
When it comes to explaining why Apex lost, one person who can't be blamed is Destiny Richardson. Despite the final result, she dropped a double-double on 18 points and 15 rebounds. That's the first time this season that Richardson scored 15 or more points. Another player making a difference was Hannah Jerkins, who scored four points along with four steals.
Green Hope's victory bumped their record up to 7-5. As for Apex, they have been struggling recently, as they've lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-7 record this season.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Green Hope's road trip will continue as they head out to face Cary at 4:30 p.m. on January 23rd. As for Apex, they will take on Holly Springs at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Holly Springs has now lost nine straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since December 8.
