Basketball Recap: Manzano's Win on Saturday Extends Winning Streak to Three

Manzano entered their tilt with Chaparral on Saturday with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. They came out on top against the Chaparral Lobos by a score of 57-46. Given the Monarchs' advantage in MaxPreps' New Mexico basketball rankings (they are ranked 20th, while the Lobos are ranked 100th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Manzano got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Bryce Johnson out in front who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 16 boards. The game was Johnson's third in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Kai Youngberg, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 12 rebounds.

Manzano smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive rebounds in three consecutive matchups.

Manzano's record now sits at 5-1. As for Chaparral, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-7.

Manzano will take on Valley in a holiday battle at at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Manzano is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 59.2 points per game this season. As for Chaparral, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 52-38 win against Hatch Valley on the 17th.
