The Middle Creek Mustangs will head out on the road to square off against the Watauga Pioneers at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Middle Creek comes in on six and Watauga on 14.
Middle Creek is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. They came out on top against Jacksonville by a score of 31-21. 31 seems to be a good number for the Mustangs as the squad scooped up a win with the same number of points in their previous game.
Middle Creek's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Tracy Harrington Jr led the charge by picking up 84 receiving yards and a pair of scores. What's more, Harrington Jr posted two receiving touchdowns, the most he's had since back in September. Another passer making a difference was Lex Sevilla, who threw for 116 yards and three TDs.
Wins are hard to come by when you can't run the rock, something Middle Creek proved: they limited Jacksonville to a paltry 3.3 yards per carry. The team can thank Davis Prichard for the heroic effort on defense: he. Sadly, that's becoming something of a trend for Middle Creek; they were averaging 5.2yards per carry per game earlier this season, but in their last three matchups they've fallen to only 4.1 per game.

Middle Creek's defense didn't let Anthony Washington, get away unscathed either: they got into the backfield for five sacks. Prichard was particularly dangerous to the passing game, picking up four himself. Prichard is also crushing it when it comes to total tackles: he's made at least five every time he's taken the field this season. Middle Creek got some further help from Connor Smith: he picked up a sack and made nine total tackles (4.0 for loss).
Meanwhile, Watauga faced Northern Guilford in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Saturday. The Pioneers slipped by the Nighthawks 43-42.
Middle Creek better keep an eye on Cade Keller. He was instrumental in Watauga's win, throwing for 267 yards and four touchdowns. Matthew Leon also helped with two scores in total.
Watauga didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Evan Burroughs and Bowen Mayo. Burroughs got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.
Middle Creek's record is now 11-2. As for Watauga, their record now sits at 14-0.
Friday's game might be decided on the ground. Middle Creek has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 184.2 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Watauga struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 187.1 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's contest turns into a tough fight on the ground. Come back here after the game to get an analysis of the match and other football content.
