The Suffield Academy Tigers will be playing at home against the Cheshire Academy Cats at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Suffield Academy is coming into the contest on a four-game losing streak.
Last Saturday, Suffield Academy was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 24-20 to Phillips Academy. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as Suffield Academy came into the match with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps's football rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 26th in Connecticut, while Phillips Academy is ranked 110th in Massachusetts).
Meanwhile, Cheshire Academy's game on Saturday was all tied up 14-14 at the half, but luckily for them it didn't stay that way. They put the hurt on Taft School with a sharp 44-20 victory.
Cheshire Academy's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Dante Reno, who threw for 253 yards and three touchdowns, and Shawn Mills, who rushed for 129 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 7.2 yards per carry. Mills was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 69 yards. Teriq Mallory also helped out with an impressive 86 receiving yards.
Suffield Academy's loss was their fourth straight on the road, which bumped their record down to 2-6. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 14.0 points per game. As for Cheshire Academy, their win bumped their record up to 6-1.
Suffield Academy was able to grind out a solid win over Cheshire Academy when the teams last played back in November of 2022, winning 19-7. Does Suffield Academy have another victory up their sleeve, or will Cheshire Academy turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
