Benson is on a three-game streak of home losses, and Arizona Lutheran Academy a five-game streak of away losses. However, someone's due for a change in luck on Wednesday. The Benson Bobcats will be playing in front of their home fans against the Arizona Lutheran Academy Coyotes at 4:00 p.m. Benson is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.9 runs per game this season.
Benson took a nine-run defeat the last time they faced off against Bisbee, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Bobcats had just enough and edged out the Pumas 7-6.
Claire Parke spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and two unearned) runs on 11 hits.
On the hitting side, Benson got a massive performance out of Karris Taylor, who went 2-for-4 with one home run and four RBI. Taylor has been hot recently, having posted at least one home run the last three times she's played. Sadie Webb was another key player, going a perfect 4-for-4 with two runs and one RBI.
Benson was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .424. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .333 or higher in six consecutive games.
Heritage Academy hit Arizona Lutheran Academy with a four-run second inning on Monday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Coyotes came up short against the Heroes, falling 11-1.
Arizona Lutheran Academy saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ella Peltzer, who went 2-for-3 with one double.
Arizona Lutheran Academy's loss dropped their record down to 7-11. As for Benson, their victory bumped their record up to 13-14.
Arizona Lutheran Academy's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Benson has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 8.9 hits per game. It's a different story for Arizona Lutheran Academy, though, as they've been averaging 9.7 hits. Given Benson's sizable advantage in that area, the Coyotes will need to find a way to close that gap.
Benson took their win against Arizona Lutheran Academy in their previous meeting back in May of 2021 by a conclusive 16-1 score. Will the Bobcats repeat their success, or do the Coyotes have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
