Trinity Christian Academy is a perfect 5-0 against Columbia since February of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Saturday. The Trinity Christian Academy Conquerors will square off against the Columbia Tigers at 1:00 p.m. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.
Trinity Christian Academy had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the six-run drubbing they dealt Creekside on Thursday. Trinity Christian Academy put the hurt on Creekside with a sharp 7-1 victory. The win was just business as usual for the Conquerors, who after four games remain undefeated this season.
Aaron Watson tossed a big game, striking out seven batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit.
At the plate, Trinity Christian Academy saw seven different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Chris Reali, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-2. Reali also put up an RBI, which was his first of the season. Brady Harris #2 was another, going 1-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Columbia entered their tilt with St. Augustine on Friday with two consecutive wins , and they'll enter their next game with three. They blew past the Yellow Jackets 7-1.
Bynton Edge made a splash while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out seven over five innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up a single earned run in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-3.
In other batting news, Columbia let Trayce McKenzie and Max Shuler run wild. McKenzie scored a run while going 4-for-4, while Shuler scored a run while going 2-for-3. The dominant performance also gave McKenzie a new career-high in doubles (two).
Trinity Christian Academy's victory was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 4-0. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.1 runs over those games. As for Columbia, their record now sits at 5-3.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Saturday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Trinity Christian Academy has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 13.5 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Columbia struggles in that department as they've been averaging 8.1 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Trinity Christian Academy beat Columbia 5-1 in their previous matchup back in April of 2021. Will Trinity Christian Academy repeat their success, or does Columbia have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
