Two dominant guards in Ariana Smith and Ora Hall are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The New Brockton Gamecocks will look to defend their home court on Monday against the Straughn Tigers at 5:30 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
New Brockton had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 38 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. They put the hurt on Pike County with a sharp 47-24 win. With New Brockton ahead 28-3 at the half, the matchup was all but over already.
Gabriella Eubanks and Casey Williams were among the main playmakers for New Brockton as the former scored nine points along with six steals and the latter scored 13 points along with two steals. Williams hasn't dropped below two steals for three straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Aniya Barkley, who scored eight points along with 15 rebounds and two steals.
Meanwhile, Straughn entered their tilt with Georgiana with four consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with five. Everything went Straughn's way against Georgiana on Friday as Straughn made off with a 53-31 win. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest victory Straughn has posted since December 8, 2023.
New Brockton's victory bumped their record up to 11-5. As for Straughn, they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last nine games, which provided a nice bump to their 14-6 record this season.
New Brockton ended up a good deal behind Straughn in their previous matchup back in December of 2023, losing 49-34. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Hall, who scored 15 points along with nine rebounds and seven assists.
