After two games on the road, Southwood is heading back home. They will take on the Maconaquah Braves at 7:45 p.m. on Tuesday. Both teams come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Last Thursday, Southwood beat Peru 49-36.
Hali Pershing and Gracie Lambert were among the main playmakers for Southwood as the former scored 13 points along with five rebounds and the latter scored 13 points along with two steals.
Maconaquah posted their biggest win since December 7, 2023 on Tuesday. Everything went their way against Pioneer as Maconaquah made off with a 58-36 victory.
Maconaquah's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Miranda Stoll led the charge by scoring 15 points along with five assists and five rebounds. Another player making a difference was Bailey Carson, who scored 13 points along with seven steals.
Southwood pushed their record up to 6-11 with that victory, which was their third straight on the road. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 52.0 points per game. As for Maconaquah, they now have a winning record of 9-8.
Tuesday's contest is shaping up to be a scrappy matchup: Southwood have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 27.1 rebounds per game. It's a different story for Maconaquah, though, as they've been averaging only 25.9 rebounds per game. Given Southwood's sizeable advantage in that area, Maconaquah will need to find a way to close that gap.
Southwood was able to grind out a solid win over Maconaquah in their previous matchup back in January of 2023, winning 57-45. Does Southwood have another victory up their sleeve, or will Maconaquah turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
