The Leesville Road Pride will face off against the Cardinal Gibbons Crusaders at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Leesville Road is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.2 runs per game this season.
Leesville Road is probably headed into the match with a chip on their shoulder considering Broughton just ended the team's four-game winning streak on Friday. They fell just short of the Capitals by a score of 5-3. The game marked the Pride's lowest-scoring contest so far this season.
Jack Fields was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he struck out six batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off six hits (and not a single walk).
At the plate, Leesville Road saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Landon Lewis, who scored a run while going 1-for-3. Ben Fields also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.
Meanwhile, Cardinal Gibbons got themselves on the board against Enloe on Friday, but Enloe never followed suit. They blew past the Eagles 15-0. The result was nothing new for the Crusaders, who have now won six matches by six runs or more so far this season.
Cardinal Gibbons let Bryce Fitzsimmons and Andrew Riedel run wild. Fitzsimmons scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-3, while Riedel scored a run while going 2-for-3. Fitzsimmons is becoming a predictor of Cardinal Gibbons' success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 3-5 when he doesn't). Graham Virag was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3.
Cardinal Gibbons was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .500. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .344 or higher in six consecutive games.
Cardinal Gibbons has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 7-5 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.0 runs over those games. Leesville Road's defeat dropped their record down to 6-3.
Tuesday's match might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Leesville Road has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .464. However, it's not like Cardinal Gibbons struggles in that department as they've averaged .441. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Leesville Road might still be hurting after the 9-3 loss they got from Cardinal Gibbons in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. Can Leesville Road avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
