It may have taken overtime to finish the job, but the Providence Grove Patriots ultimately got the result they hoped for on Tuesday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 71-68 victory over Asheboro. With that win, Providence Grove brought their scoring average up to 55.5 points per game.
Providence Grove was led to victory by LAUREL BERNHARDT and BROOKE INGRAM. BERNHARDT scored 19 points along with 5 rebounds, while INGRAM scored 18 points along with 6 rebounds. That makes it two consecutive games in which INGRAM has scored at least 25% of Providence Grove's points. The team also got some help courtesy of JADA NIXON, who scored 11 points.
Several Blue Comets players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Ellen Long, who scored 14 points along with 7 rebounds. Another player making a difference was Kimry Comer, who scored 18 points along with 7 rebounds.
The victory got Providence Grove back to even at 1-1. As for Asheboro, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 0-2.
Providence Grove will face off against Lexington at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for Asheboro, they will face off against Ashe County at 11:30 a.m. on Friday.
