Softball Recap: Union County Turns Things Around After Road Loss

There's no place like home for Union County, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Thursday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Owensboro Red Devils a 15-0 shutout on Friday. Considering the Braves have won 11 matches by more than six runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Peyton Jenkins looked comfortable as she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over four innings pitched. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Sydney Thomas, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April. The team also got some help courtesy of Audrey Staley, who went 1-for-2 with three runs and one RBI.

Union County has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-12 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Owensboro, they dropped their record down to 9-16 with the loss, which was their seventh straight on the road.

Looking ahead, Union County will be playing at home against Henderson County at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Owensboro, they will venture away from home to face off against Webster County at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
