Even though the Hiawatha Hawks scored an imposing 59 points on Saturday, the DePue Little Giants still came out on top. DePue managed a 65-59 win over Hiawatha. This was payback for DePue, who suffered a 70-50 loss the last time these two teams met.
DePue's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Vance Hayes led the charge by scoring 26 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Hayes has scored all season. Luis Lopez was another key contributor, scoring 22 points.
DePue's win bumped their record up to 6-14. As for Hiawatha, they are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 6-18.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. DePue will face off against Earlville at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Earlville will be looking to keep their six-game home win streak alive. Hiawatha will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Alden-Hebron at 7:00 p.m. on February 7th.
