The North Miami Pioneers's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their fifth straight loss. They took a 60-50 hit to the loss column at the hands of Lourdes Academy. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for North Miami in their matchups with Lourdes Academy: they've now lost four in a row.
Despite the loss, North Miami saw an underclassman step up: Jadore Hayes dropped a double-double on 25 points and 15 rebounds. That was a full 50% of North Miami's points, marking the fourth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Shaina Garvy, who scored four points along with eight rebounds.
Lourdes Academy's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Sophia Sandoval, who scored 30 points along with nine steals. Luciana Picasso was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 17 points and ten rebounds.
North Miami bumped their record down to 4-10 with that defeat, which was their fourth straight at home dating back to last season. As for Lourdes Academy, the victory (which was their 11th in a row) raised their record to 13-1.
North Miami will look to defend their home court on Thursday against North Miami Beach at 6:00 p.m. North Miami Beach's defense has only allowed 26.1 points per game this season, so North Miami's offense will have their work cut out for them. As for Lourdes Academy, Lourdes Academy and Northwestern will face off at 5:00 p.m. on January 17th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Hopefully Northwestern focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up six on Saturday.
