They were completely outmatched, falling 0-54 to Ellsworth/Sumner. The state rankings had actually given Mattanawcook a slight edge heading into the game, making this hurt that much more.
Both teams are staying within the conference for their upcoming matches. Mattanawcook will be staying on the road next week, facing off against Stearns/Schenck. Neither of those teams managed to put together many points in their previous contests, so their meeting could be a low-scoring affair. As for Ellsworth/Sumner, they will face off against Bucksport. Since neither squad is a stranger to landslide victories this season, you'd better bet it will be hard-fought showdown.
