Northwestern hasn't had much luck against York recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The Trojans will face off against the Cougars at 6:00 p.m.
Northwestern's last matchup with Indian Land could've gone either way, but unfortunately the same can't be said for the pair's game on Tuesday. The Trojans came up short against the Warriors, falling 9-1. Having soared to a lofty 11 runs in the game before, the Trojans couldn't push the score so high this time.
Northwestern saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Carmen Kelly, who scored a run while going 1-for-3.
Meanwhile, York waltzed into their contest on Tuesday with three straight wins... but they left with four. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Blue Devils a 9-0 shutout. The Cougars might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight matches by six runs or more this season.
Dreher's batters probably weren't too happy with Layla Clayton, who pitched a no hitter and racked up 15 Ks (she gave up zero walks). Clayton has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in seven consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Natalie Dover was incredible, scoring three runs while going 3-for-5. Those three runs gave her a new career-high. Alyvia Lingerfelt was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.
York kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in five consecutive games.
York's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 9-3. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.3 runs on average over those games. As for Northwestern, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-7.
Northwestern might still be hurting after the 6-0 loss they got from York in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Can the Trojans avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
