The Pewamo-Westphalia Pirates will venture away from home to square off against the Dansville Aggies at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The last three games Pewamo-Westphalia has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
On Wednesday, it was close, but Pewamo-Westphalia sidestepped Saranac for an 8-7 win.
Makayla McRae spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and three unearned) runs on 12 hits.
On the hitting side, Peyton Eklund was incredible, going 2-for-3 with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base. That triple marked the first that she has hit this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Reylee Thelen, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Dansville). They put the hurt on Morrice with a sharp 21-0 victory on Wednesday. The win was nothing new for the Aggies as they're now sitting on three straight.
Maddi Carter made a splash no matter where she played. She struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and not a single walk). She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up a single walk in three consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 4-for-4 with six RBI, three runs, and one double. Those four hits gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Bree Delano, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, four RBI, and one double. That's the most runs she has posted over her last 12 games. Kaelee Foreman was another key player, going 3-for-4 with three runs and one RBI.
Dansville kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 20 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in ten consecutive matches.
Dansville's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 14-4. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 18.3 runs over those games. As for Pewamo-Westphalia, their record now sits at 4-5.
Pewamo-Westphalia came up short against Dansville in their previous meeting back in May of 2024, falling 9-6. Can the Pirates avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
