After both having extra time off, the Clovis Wildcats and the Carlsbad Cavemen/Cavegirls will shake off the rust and duke it out at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The last three games Clovis has played have been within one set, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
Clovis took a loss when they played away from home last Thursday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Tuesday. They had just enough and edged out Roswell 3-2.
Clovis took Roswell into a fifth set where they got it done with a two-point win. The match finished with set scores of 25-16, 25-18, 25-27, 21-25, 16-14.

Clovis' success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Brynn Petner led the charge by getting 15 kills, 14 digs, and four aces. Petner has been hot for a while, having posted five or more kills the last 17 times she's played. Another player making a difference was Amor Soto, who had 15 digs and ten aces.
Meanwhile, Carlsbad hadn't done well against Hobbs recently (they were 0-9 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. The Cavemen/Cavegirls came out on top against the Eagles by a score of 3-1. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Cavemen/Cavegirls as it put an end to their three-match losing streak.
Carlsbad was especially dominant in the first set. The final score came out to 25-13, 23-25, 25-18, 25-22.
Carlsbad's victory was their first in the district, bumping their district record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 5-14. As for Clovis, their win bumped their record up to 9-10.
Clovis skirted past Carlsbad 3-2 in their previous meeting last Tuesday. Do the Wildcats have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Cavemen/Cavegirls turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
