Crab Orchard is 8-2 against Galatia/Thompsonville since April of 2018 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Trojans will host the Bearcats at 4:30 p.m. Crab Orchard is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.4 runs per game this season.
Crab Orchard had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the eight-run drubbing they dealt Hardin County on Wednesday. The Trojans put the hurt on the Cougars with a sharp 9-1 win. The victory continues a trend for the Trojans in their matchups with the Cougars: they've now won seven in a row.
Drew Besheres spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on six hits and racked up seven Ks. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Halle Ashmore, who went 3-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March. Harper Besheres was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Galatia/Thompsonville came up short against Crab Orchard on April 1st and fell 6-3. The Bearcats haven't had much luck with the Trojans recently, as the team has come up short the last eight times they've met.
Kyra Blades was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double. That run was her first of the season.
Crab Orchard's win was their 11th straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 17-1. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.9 runs over those games. As for Galatia/Thompsonville, their loss dropped their record down to 4-2.
Crab Orchard was able to grind out a solid win over Galatia/Thompsonville when the teams last played on April 1st, winning 6-3. Will the Trojans repeat their success, or do the Bearcats have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
