P.K. Yonge is a perfect 10-0 against Saint Francis Catholic since April of 2017 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. P.K. Yonge will head out to face off against Saint Francis Catholic at 4:30 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.
P.K. Yonge came up short against Dixie County on Thursday, falling 21-11. The Blue Wave have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Micah Gratto was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring three runs and stealing three bases while going 2-for-4. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Colt Kramer, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3.
Gratto wasn't the only one working in the hit department: P.K. Yonge kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. This was only their first loss (out of four games) when they post 11 or more hits.
Meanwhile, Saint Francis Catholic waltzed into their match on Thursday with five straight wins... but they left with six. They were the clear victors by a 15-1 margin over the Wildcats. The Wolves might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine contests by seven runs or more this season.
Isaac Sherrouse looked comfortable as he struck out eight batters over four innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits (and not a single walk). He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Sawyer Williams, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with four stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI. With that strong performance, he is now averaging an impressive 1.1 stolen bases per game. Gabe Long also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.
Saint Francis Catholic's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 11-5. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for P.K. Yonge, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-8.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Friday as neither team is afraid to steal. P.K. Yonge has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.3 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Saint Francis Catholic struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 6 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Everything went P.K. Yonge's way against Saint Francis Catholic in their previous meeting back in February, as P.K. Yonge made off with a 14-4 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for P.K. Yonge since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
