Basketball Recap: Newman International Academy Piles Up the Points Against Mount Calm

Newman International Academy saw some tournament action on Saturday. They breezed by Mount Calm to the tune of 51-17. The Warriors have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won eight games by 24 points or more this season.

Arianna Miranda continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines, dropping a double-double on 33 points and 12 rebounds. That makes it nine consecutive games in which she has scored at least a third of Newman International Academy's points. Another player making a difference was Morgan Brook, who posted three points in addition to nine boards and five assists.

Newman International Academy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 22 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in five consecutive contests.

Newman International Academy is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 9-10 record this season. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 35.2 points. As for Mount Calm, they are on a 14-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-5.

Newman International Academy wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 49-4 victory against Harmony School of Innovation Fort Worth on the 16th. As for Mount Calm, they will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Slocum at 6:00 p.m. on January 7, 2025.
