The Fairfield Tigers will head out on the road to face off against the Hayden Wildcats at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Fairfield will be strutting in after a victory while Hayden will be coming in after a loss.
Last Friday, even if it wasn't a dominant performance, Fairfield beat Wenonah 31-27. The victory was just what Fairfield needed coming off of a 48-13 loss in their prior match.
Fairfield's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Justin Murray, who rushed for 117 yards and three touchdowns. Murray hasn't dropped below 100 rushing yards for three straight games. Je'dan Gilbert also helped out with an impressive 149 receiving yards.
Another reason for the win was Fairfield's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for three sacks. Leading the way was Jordan Reed and his two sacks.
Meanwhile, Hayden fell victim to Ramsay's stalwart defense on Friday and couldn't make it onto the board. They were outmatched by the Rams at home and fell 45-0. While losing is never fun, Hayden can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Alabama football rankings (they are ranked 237th, while Ramsay is ranked 15th).
Fairfield's win bumped their record up to 3-6. As for Hayden, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 2-6.
Everything came up roses for Fairfield against Hayden in their previous meeting back in October of 2022 as the team secured a 40-12 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Fairfield since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
