The Roosevelt Roughriders will venture away from home to challenge the Skyview Storm at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Roosevelt has given up an average of 7.1 runs per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Things were looking good for Roosevelt after they put the first runs on the board on Thursday, but unfortunately for them things went downhill from there. They came up short against McDaniel, falling 13-3. The Roughriders haven't had much luck with the Mountain Lions recently, as the team has come up short the last three times they've met.
Ezra Arp was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 1-for-2. Quincy Jensen was another key player, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 1-for-2.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Skyview, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Saturday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past R.A. Long 1-0. The Storm haven't had any issues with the Lumberjacks recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive win against them.
Skyview got several good pitching performances, but Jacob Griffith was perhaps the best, tossing three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Griffith has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks any time he's pitched this season.
At the plate, Skyview's victory was truly a team effort as five different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Dylan Goetz, who went 2-for-3 with one RBI. Micah Robison also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.
Skyview's win was their fourth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 4-5. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.5 runs over those games. As for Roosevelt, their loss dropped their record down to 4-7.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Friday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Roosevelt has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.1 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Skyview struggles in that department as they've been averaging 6.9 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one. Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
