On Saturday, the Kelly Walsh Trojans faced the East Thunderbirds in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Kelly Walsh opened the new year with a less-than-successful 48-41 loss to East. Kelly Walsh has not had much luck with East recently, as the team's come up short the last three times they've met.
Kelly Walsh lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Jace Nicholls, who scored eight points. Jack Nicholls was another key contributor, scoring seven points.
Kelly Walsh bumped their record down to 4-6 with that defeat, which was their fourth straight on the road dating back to last season. As for East, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 9-1.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Kelly Walsh and Sheridan will face off at 6:00 p.m. on January 11th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Sheridan is coming into the game hot, having won their last eight games. East and Riverton will face off at 5:00 p.m. on January 11th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Hopefully Riverton focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up seven on Saturday.
