New Milford (N.J.) jumped out to an early lead against
Ridgefield Memorial (Ridgefield, N.J.) and never looked back on the way to a 31-19 victory on Saturday.
The Knights put up 14 points in the opening frame. New Milford scored on a touchdown run by
Jason Liska and a
Joe Victory touchdown run.
After taking the lead on a Victory touchdown run in the first quarter, NM was up 24-13 at the half.
The Knights expanded their lead to 18 points entering the fourth quarter. New Milford scored once in the quarter on a touchdown run by
Robert Bowers.
NM also won the meeting between the two teams last season, 40-12.
The victory was a step in the right direction for the Knights, who were coming off a 21-14 defeat at the hands of Secaucus in its previous game. The defeat comes as a step back for Ridgefield Memorial, who notched a 7-0 victory over Hawthorne in its previous outing.
Ridgefield Memorial (2-2) will play a North Jersey - Liberty game against Lyndhurst next week, while New Milford (3-1) will take on Harrison also in a North Jersey - Liberty game.
