Flint River Academy had to endure a four-game losing streak dating back to last season, but that streak is no more. They rang in the new year with a 56-49 win over St. Mary's Academy on Saturday. The victory was just what Flint River Academy needed coming off of a 64-31 defeat in their prior matchup.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Flint River Academy to victory, but perhaps none more so than Cale Cartwright, who scored 19 points along with eight rebounds and six steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Bode Chaney, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 15 rebounds.
Meanwhile, Lafayette Christian scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Monday. They took their game at home with ease, bagging a 96-26 victory over Hearts Academy. Considering Lafayette Christian has won four matchups by more than 37 points this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.
Lafayette Christian's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Bruno Tellez, who scored 31 points along with six rebounds and five steals. The matchup was Tellez's sixth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Joshua Zapata, who scored 24 points along with seven assists and three steals.
The win got Flint River Academy back to even at 1-1. As for Lafayette Christian, they pushed their record up to 6-4 with that win, which was their fourth straight at home.
Flint River Academy took a serious blow against Lafayette Christian in their previous meeting back in February of 2023, falling 65-28. Thankfully for Flint River Academy, Adam Saylor (who scored 23 points along with seven rebounds and five blocks) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
