A feisty cat fight will be fought as Waco Lions challenge Chaparral Bobcats at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Waco will bounce into Tuesday's game after beating Ellison, who they had gone 1-7 against in their eight prior meetings. Waco walked away with a 5-1 victory over Ellison on Friday.
Chloe Nava made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out 12 over seven innings pitched. Nava was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one double.
Nava wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Kalysta Leslie, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI. That's the most RBI Leslie has posted since back in March of 2024. Tesharme Bell also deserves some recognition as she scored her first run of the season.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Chaparral, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Friday. They blew past Ellison 16-1 on Thursday. The win continues a trend for the Bobcats in their matchups with the Eagles: they've now won three in a row.
Like Waco, Chaparral also got a great game from a two-way player: Madison Edwards. She pitched three innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Edwards has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. She was even better at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 2-for-3.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kendal Macklin, who scored three runs and stole two bases while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances. The team also got some help courtesy of Audrina Galvan, who scored two runs while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances.
Chaparral always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .826. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Waco's record now sits at 3-4-1. As for Chaparral, their record now sits at 7-8.
Waco suffered a grim 20-1 defeat to Chaparral when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Can Waco avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
