The St. Mary's Lancers can now show off four landslide victories after their most recent match on Thursday. They blew past Sacred Heart Academy 66-44. Given St. Mary's advantage in MaxPreps' New York basketball rankings (they are ranked 17th, while Sacred Heart Academy is ranked 171st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
St. Mary's was led to victory by Jada Mushat and Emily Mcdonald. Mushat scored 23 points along with six rebounds and three steals, while Mcdonald dropped a double-double on 23 points and 16 rebounds. Mushat is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last four games she's played. Another player making a difference was Kenzie Owens, who scored seven points along with seven rebounds and five assists.
Several Sharks players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Brooke Personius, who scored 16 points along with five rebounds and four steals. Personius hasn't dropped below two steals for four straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Olivia Zablocki, who scored eight points along with 14 rebounds and two blocks.
Even though they lost, Sacred Heart Academy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 23 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as St. Mary's only pulled down 15 offensive rebounds.
St. Mary's victory bumped their record up to 9-4. As for Sacred Heart Academy, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 6-7.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. St. Mary's will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Lancaster at 7:00 p.m. on January 23rd. Sacred Heart Academy will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Cardinal O'Hara at 6:00 p.m. on January 25th. Cardinal O'Hara knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past seven matches -- so hopefully Sacred Heart Academy likes a good challenge.
