Poca hasn't had much luck against Scott recently, but that could start to change on Monday. Poca will venture away from home to challenge Scott at 6:00 p.m. Poca has given up an average of 15.8 runs per game this season, but Monday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Poca managed to slip by Braxton County the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. Poca came up short against Braxton County on Tuesday, falling 13-3. The Dots just can't catch a break and have now endured three losses in a row.
Poca saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Preston Bonnett, who scored a run while going 1-for-2. Landon Rawlings also deserves some recognition as he scored his first run of the season.
Meanwhile, Scott won against Independence on Thursday with 14 runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Saturday. Scott put the hurt on Clay County with a sharp 14-2 win. The victory was familiar territory for the Skyhawks, who have now won three matchups in a row.
Jason Ferrell and Ryan Neal were a major factor no matter where they played. Throwing, Ferrell tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Neal tossed four innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. That's the fewest earned runs he has allowed since back in May of 2024. At bat, Ferrell scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-4, while Neal went 4-for-5 with one RBI. Those four hits gave Neal a new career-high.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Louden White, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 2-for-3. Alex Dent was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing two bases.
Scott was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .471. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .333 or higher in three consecutive contests.
Scott pushed their record up to 6-1-2 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.3 runs over those games. As for Poca, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-4.
Poca suffered a grim 29-5 defeat to Scott in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Can Poca avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
