Manchester hasn't had much luck against DeKalb recently, but that could start to change on Saturday. The Squires are taking a road trip to challenge the Barons at 11:00 a.m. Manchester is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.2 runs per game this season.
On Wednesday, Manchester didn't have quite enough to beat Northwestern and fell 4-2. The Squires have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Manchester saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Harper Sturtsman, who went 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, DeKalb waltzed into their match on Thursday with ten straight wins... but they left with 11. They narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past the Vikings 5-3. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Barons have posted since May 2, 2024.
Brendan Vance made a splash no matter where he played. He pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.
In other batting news, Ashten Tuttle was excellent, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one double. AJ Ross was another key player, going 1-for-2 with one run and one RBI.
Manchester's loss dropped their record down to 9-9. As for DeKalb, they pushed their record up to 14-1 with the win, which was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Saturday as neither team is afraid to steal. Manchester has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.7 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like DeKalb struggles in that department as they've been averaging 4.2 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Manchester took their victory against DeKalb when the teams last played back in May of 2024 by a conclusive 11-4 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Squires since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
