Legacy hasn't had much luck against Bishop Gorman recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Longhorns will square off against the Gaels at 4:00 p.m. Bishop Gorman took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on Legacy, who comes in off a win.
If Legacy beats Bishop Gorman with 11 runs on Thursday, it's going to be the squad's new lucky number: they've won their past two contests with that exact score. The Longhorns put the hurt on Cheyenne with a sharp 11-1 victory on Wednesday. The Longhorns haven't had any issues with the Desert Shields recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive win against them.

Legacy got a great performance from Ernie Rios as he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out seven over five innings pitched. Those seven strikeouts gave Rios a new career-high.
At the plate, Legacy let Easton Lake and Kyler Avila run wild. Lake went 2-for-3 with two runs, two RBI, and one double, while Avila went a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs, one triple, and one double. That's the most hits Avila has posted since back in May of 2024. Kalib Nuzum also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.
Legacy was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .440. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Cheyenne only posted a batting average of .176.
Meanwhile, Bishop Gorman faced Coronado in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Wednesday. The Gaels lost 9-2 to the Cougars. The Gaels' loss signaled the end of their four-game winning streak.
Bishop Gorman also got a good showing from Avi Garg, who tossed 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Garg has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one walk any time he's pitched this season.
On the hitting side, Bishop Gorman saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Justin Rodrigues, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one RBI. Another was Austin Arteaga, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances.
Bishop Gorman's defeat dropped their record down to 18-11. As for Legacy, their record now sits at 11-13.
Legacy suffered a grim 10-0 defeat to Bishop Gorman when the teams last played back in April of 2019. Can the Longhorns avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
